CBD Oil For Pets is a cannabis extract that can help reduce anxiety and pain in dogs, without the dog being frozen / high. It is a natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs that are often addictive and have undesirable side effects (eg prozac for dogs). CBD is consumed orally, by pouring a few drops into the dog’s mouth. Without psychoactive effects, giving your dog CBD could be an interesting solution that will only do good!
If you’re like us, you’ve never heard the word “CBD” before quite recently. In this article, you will be told everything you need to know to give your dog CBD.
What are the effects?
After ingesting a dose of CBD, your dog feels better.
It’s vague as a description so let me develop: CBD does not add any sensation but rather, reduces anxiety and pain. A bit like, taking an Advil does not make you feel better but rather masks your pain. Giving your dog CBD reduces his perception of pain and reduces his anxiety level without making him high. CBD is not stupid, does not hallucinate, does not blur ideas. When it does work (because it does not work on all dogs) it distresses, relaxes, reduces anxiety and pain. The official website of the SQDC says that CBD “could create the impression of feeling relaxing and increasing the state of calm and relaxation”.
When describing the effects on the dog it is vague because the difference to be observed is in the absence or the reduction of a behavior. Instead of grunting, panicking, choking, barking, being on the lookout for every sound, the dog is just calm
Humans can also consume CBD for the same reasons as dogs. The effects of CBD on dogs and humans are essentially the same. These reasons can be divided into 2 major groups:
A) Reduce pain (arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, etc.)
B) Reduce anxiety
In order to be consumed the CBD is extracted from the plant and then added to the oil. This is called a “tincture”. It is in this liquid form that CBD is generally sold. The spinach is then sold in a small 30ml bottle in which the concentration of CBD per milliliter varies.
The regular dose is 0.3mg CBD per kilo (dog weight). So, for my dog weighing 20kg, he is given 6mg per day.
Formula: Weight of your dog in kg x 0.3 = number of mg per day.
The maximum dose not to be exceeded per day is 10 mg CBD per kilogram for an adult dog.
On the SQDC site, the 30 ml bottle is $ 82.5, but its concentration is very strong. For my dog who consumes 6mg a day, the small bottle of 30ml represents 125 doses. Still, there is still a way to get it illegally, but at your own risk. Note that paying less is probably not a good idea for this type of thing. Low cost products will not have a CBD concentration high enough to be effective. I would not trust a bottle under $ 40 for example, even for a low-concentration bottle.
Hemp also contains CBD but in a considerably smaller quantity. Thus, there are products for dogs that display contain CBD, at a lower price, for example Amazon, but these products will have no real effect on your dog because their CBD concentration is drastically lower.
Where to find CBD Oil For Dogs:
Why we give it to our dog:
It had long been accepted that our responsive dog would always be timid. That the noise in the street, there is nothing to do, it just scares him and the neighbors who come home, it’s just not his thing.
By reading on the reactive dog forums, we often saw the term CBD come back, without understanding what it meant. People said they thought it was “a real difference”. When someone mentioned being on the run and not knowing what to do, someone would inevitably mention “did you try to give him CBD”
Test! We too have taken it
By this we are not comfortable giving something to our dog without having tested it ourselves, we tried to take CBD at the same time as we gave to our dog. Because we suffer from anxiety, and we are the most light-weight people we know, we feel comfortable telling you that, indeed, there is no hallucinogenic effect and that we does not feel at all high. It is rather a tool to manage anxiety. Personally, I find that it avoids having the black ideas that turn in the head. Thoughts are one after the other rather than a snowball avalanche. If you suffer from anxiety, you will understand what I mean.
CBD for humans VS CBD for Dogs:
Several companies sell CBD. Some sell CBD for humans and others for dogs. This is the same CBD, the only difference is the kind of oil in which the CBD is put. Some companies use fish oil as a vessel for “CBD for dogs” while “CBD for human” would be in vegetable oil, for example. But basically, there is no CBD for human vs dog: it’s the same thing!
To know! CBD does not work on all dogs:
One thing that reassured us is that it does not affect everyone. We can not know exactly what percentage of dogs take CBD “works” but we have read that CBD is effective on 50% of dogs. The effects are seen between 5 and 30 minutes after consumption and last about 4 hours. There are dogs for whom it has no effect and for others it is practically a miracle.
It is advisable to start with a small dose and gradually increase until you see the effects. If you arrive at the maximum dose and notice no difference after a few weeks, you can try another CBD provider or conclude that it does not work for your dog.
CBD VS THC
People usually use cannabis to be high. What makes high in cannabis is THC.
CBD, although it is also extracted from cannabis, is not at all the same as THC. It does not make high. It can be consumed by dogs as much as by humans. Only the dosage differs.
CBD is safe for dogs but THC is not. Compared to humans, dogs have a proportionately increased susceptibility to THC and may be seriously ill after consuming it.
Although CBD is safe for dogs, there are still cases of cannabis toxicity.Cannabis is toxic to dogs. Veterinarians have observed an increase in cases of intoxication of dogs with edible cannabis products intended for humans.
The biggest danger is caused by “edibles”, especially those with chocolate because chocolate is toxic to dogs. Of course, never smoke your dog.
